Teks narrative adalah cerita yang dibuat untuk menghibur pembaca.
Social Function:

• To amuse the readers
• To entertain the readers
• To educate the readers

Text Structure:

• Orientation (introduce the setting and participants)
• Complication (conflict)
• Resolution (of conflict)
• Re-Orientation / coda (conclusion of the story; optional)

Language Features:

• Past or present tense
• Action verbs (met, ate, brought, etc.)
• Saying verbs (said, promised, exclaimed, etc.)
• Thinking verbs (thought, felt, understood, etc.)
• Adjective s (pretty, clever, tired, hot, big, wooden, etc,)
• Conjunction and time connectives (and, then, but, after that, next, etc.)
• Adverbs and adverb phrases of place, time, manner (once upon a time, at night, early in the morning, huriedlt, etc.)

Topik-topik dalam teks naratif antara lain legenda, fabel, cerita rakyat dan fairy tale.
