Gerund merupakan pembentukan nouns dari verbs. Untuk membentuk gerund kita dapat menambahkan -ing pada verbs yang ingin kita gunakan sebagai nouns. Ini adalah salah satu bentuk dari verbs derivation sebagaimana telah dibahas sebelumnya. Gerund dapat berfungsi sebagai subject, direct object, object preposition, complement. Dalam beberapa kasus gerund juga berfungsi sebagai modifier dalam kalimat.

- She still likes boxing.
- Your future depends on working vigorously toward a realistic goal.
